Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: Sidelined at Triple-A
Campbell was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday with a left foot contusion, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
While the injury seems relatively minor, there's a chance it will end Campbell's season given how little of the schedule is left. Campbell put up a .631 OPS with just two home runs through the end of June at Worcester this season, but he's slashed .320/.440/.524 with six long balls since July 1.

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Burned by long ball in loss
Bennett (9-7) took the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk in 5.1 innings. He struck out two.
Bennett was stung by the long ball Wednesday, serving up a trio of home runs. The left-hander registered his fewest punchouts since May 7 versus the Rays, and he also saw a streak of three quality starts come to an end. Bennett has conceded five big flies in his first two starts of September, which is a bit of a concern after he surrendered just two over five outings in August. He still has a quality 3.69 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 83:19 K:BB over 105 innings.

Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Beginning assignment Friday
Contreras (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Portland on Friday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Contreras took batting practice on the field before Tuesday's game against the Angels as the latest step in his recovery from a left hamstring strain. He'd been a candidate to return from the injured list for Friday's series opener against the Royals, but the Sox will instead have him play in a few tune-up games before adding him back to the active roster.

Red Sox's Adley Rutschman: Expected back in lineup Friday
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Wednesday that Rutschman was given a cortisone injection in his right elbow following Monday's game versus the Angels, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
It explains why Rutschman is missing a second straight start Wednesday. The catcher suffered a hyperextended elbow in late August and has been dealing with nagging soreness off-and-on since. Tracy said that Rutschman is expected back in the lineup Friday against the Royals following the team's day off Thursday.

Red Sox's Adley Rutschman: Out of Boston lineup
Rutschman is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Angels.
It's the second straight day that Rutschman's name has not appeared in Boston's starting lineup. He's dealt with a hyperextended right elbow recently and that issue could be flaring up again, though the Red Sox have yet to reveal whether Rutschman is hurt or is simply resting. Mickey Gasper is doing the catching for the Red Sox in Wednesday's series finale.

Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Rusty in first rehab outing
Houck (elbow) allowed one run on two walks over two-thirds of an inning for Double-A Portland on Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Houck began a rehab assignment with the Sea Dogs and was understandably rusty in his first game action since July 9, 2025. Only eight of his 20 offerings landed in the zone. The right-hander is next scheduled to pitch Friday and elevate his pitch count to the 40-to-45 range.

Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Adds pitches to side session
Crochet (shoulder) threw 20 pitches consisting of fastballs and complementary offerings during a side session Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
This was Crochet's second side session and first that wasn't exclusively fastballs. Boston manager Chad Tracy was pleased with the session, noting Crochet looked and felt good. The next step has not yet been determined, but the manager mentioned another side session this weekend as a possibility.

Red Sox's Patrick Sandoval: Yields 10 hits to Halos in loss
Sandoval (1-5) took the loss against the Angels on Tuesday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings.
It was Sandoval's first career start against the Angels, with whom he spent six seasons from 2019 to 2024. He didn't have his best stuff Tuesday, giving up at least one run in three of his six frames, and the 10 hits he allowed were his most in a start since May 12, 2024 against the Royals (11). Sandoval has taken the loss in five of his last six outings and sports a 4.58 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 57:27 K:BB over 55 innings this season. He's tentatively slated to start next week on the road against the Rangers.

Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Not in Tuesday's lineup
Duran is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Duran went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer in Monday's series opener to bust out of a 3-for-35 slump, and he'll take a seat Tuesday against Halos lefty Reid Detmers. Roman Anthony will shift to left field while Jahmai Jones picks up a start as the designated hitter.

Contreras (hamstring) took batting practice on the field at Fenway Park on Tuesday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Contreras is also expected to do some running on the field during Boston's series against the Angels that runs through Wednesday. It hasn't been determined yet whether Contreras needs a short rehab assignment before returning to the active roster. If he skips one, he could be activated as soon as Friday. Contreras has been out since late August with a left hamstring strain.

Gasper is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Gasper started the previous eight contests and will receive a day off after batting .231 (6-for-26) with a double, three homers and a 7:6 BB:K during that span. Willson Contreras (hamstring) could be back from the injured list as soon as Friday, but the Red Sox may try to keep Gasper in the lineup however they can given his recent offensive production. Nick Sogard will pick up a start at first base Tuesday while Andruw Monasterio handles the keystone.

Rutschman is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Angels.
The switch-hitting Rutschman has been better against righties (.789 OPS) than lefties (.640 OPS) this season, so he'll get a break as the Angels send southpaw Reid Detmers to the hill. Connor Wong will do the catching and will bat ninth for the Red Sox.

Duran led off the bottom of the second inning with the homer, his 20th of the season. Despite what has been a trying season for the outfielder, who is batting .204, Duran has contributed pop, defense and speed (18 stolen bases). He's poised for a second 20/20 season.

Red Sox's Adley Rutschman: Smacks three-run homer Monday
Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 5-2 win over the Angels.
Rutschman supplied the biggest swing of Boston's four-run second inning, turning on a 97.8 mph fastball from former Orioles teammate Grayson Rodriguez and sending it off the Pesky Pole for a three-run homer. The blast was Rutschman's 12th of the season and fourth since joining Boston. He's hit safely in four of his last six games, so he could be gearing up for a strong finish over the last few weeks of the regular season.
