  • Bills' Keon Coleman: Listed as starter on unofficial depth chart

Coleman is listed as a starter on Buffalo's first depth chart of the preseason, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.

The Bills list 12 starters, including three WRs, with the other unsurprisingly being DJ Moore and and Khalil Shakir. While it isn't a bad sign to be listed as a starter on the unofficial depth chart, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News believes Joshua Palmer has the upper hand on Coleman in a competition for the No. 3 receiver spot. Palmer reportedly shined Tuesday in one of the final practices before Buffalo's preseason opener (Saturday against Carolina).

  • Bills' James Cook: Could get more passing-game work

Bills offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael didn't rule out the possibility of Cook having more involvement as a pass catcher in 2026, Alex Brasky of SI.com reports. "Anytime you can get the ball in [Cook's] hands, you have an opportunity for a big play," Carmichael said Monday. "I think he can bring value not only in the run game but the pass game as well."

Between 17 regular-season and two postseason contests in 2025, Cook took on 348 carries, handily surpassing his previous career high of 273 totes over 19 contests in 2023. The running back ended up leading the league in rushing with 1,621 yards, but head coach Joe Brady has already mentioned the possibility of taking some of that workload off the 26-year-old's plate. One way the Bills could limit the pounding Cook takes between the tackles without sacrificing his overall touches would be to increase his involvement in the passing game, where he's averaged 7.1 yards per target during his four-year career. Ty Johnson has carved out a role as a pass-catching specialist the past three seasons, but he exited Monday's practice with a knee issue. Cook may end up taking on more third-down snaps out of necessity if Johnson's injury lingers into the regular season.

  • Bills' Josh Allen: Working well with Moore

Allen has been building chemistry with new WR DJ Moore early on in training camp, Alec White, Mike Maynard and Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

During the Return of the Blue and Red practice Saturday, Allen connected with Moore in stride on a deep ball down the middle of the field for a 50-yard gain. Later, in a two-minute drill, Allen and Moore again hooked up twice to move the offense past midfield. Allen has fallen short of 4,000 passing yards in each of the last two seasons, which coincided with Stefon Diggs' exit from the team, but prior to that the quarterback racked up at least 4,283 yards through the air in four consecutive campaigns working with Diggs. By acquiring Moore this offseason, the Bills have increased the odds that Allen can get back to that threshold with more of an established wide receiver on the roster.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Absent from Monday's practice

Johnson (knee) did not participate in Monday's practice, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Johnson left Saturday's practice early with a knee injury. The change-of-pace back still does not have a set return date, and it's currently unclear how severe the knee issue is. Johnson was spotted on the field at the beginning of Monday's session but then retreated back into the locker room. If Johnson was testing the limits of the injury Monday, it could signify he's not far from returning.

  • Bills' Skyler Bell: Battling for game-day role

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic relays that Bell's game-day role will be determined by his performances across the Bills' three preseason games.

Buscaglia notes that Bell is locked in as the Bills' WR5 behind DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer. The Bills could opt to keep Mecole Hardman as a sixth wide receiver and primary punt returner, which would make it more likely that Bell begins the regular season as a healthy scratch without an outstanding effort over Buffalo's three exhibition games. Bell was a fourth-round selection of the Bills in the 2026 NFL Draft following a strong final college season at UConn, when he caught 101 passes for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns across 12 games.

  • Bills' Connor McGovern: Exits practice with leg injury

McGovern had to leave practice early Saturday due to what appeared to be a right leg injury, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.

McGovern favored his right leg as he walked to the locker room, but he was at least able to exit under his own power. Coach Joe Brady said after practice that he didn't yet have an update on McGovern, per Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News. McGovern signed a four-year deal in March to remain with Buffalo and is expected to once again serve as the team's starting center, if healthy.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Departs practice with knee injury

Johnson left practice early Saturday due to an apparent right knee injury, Matt Parrino of NYup.com reports.

Johnson was participating in 1-on-1 drills when he went down and immediately grabbed his right knee. The running back was escorted to the sideline, and then to the locker room, by team trainers. There's no word yet on the exact nature or extent of Johnson's injury, but any absence lingering into the regular season would be a blow to Buffalo's backfield depth, as the versatile tailback is expected to again work in a dual-threat role behind James Cook and Ray Davis.

  • Bills' Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles: Moved to IR

The Bills placed Flannigan-Fowles (undisclosed) on injured reserve Thursday.

Flannigan-Fowles signed a one-year deal with the Bills in late May. The linebacker was a key depth piece for the Giants in 2025, participating in 10 regular-season games and logging 33 tackles (21 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and one interception. The 29-year-old was a key depth addition to a new Bills linebacker room as the team shifts to a 3-4 defensive front. Unfortunately, Flanagan-Fowles' placement on injured reserve means his season is over unless he is given one of just two designations to return once the regular season commences.

  • Bills' C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Back to practice

Gardner-Johnson (calf) was a full participant in Thursday's training camp session, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Gardner-Johnson participated in both individual and team drills Thursday, making a quick recovery from the calf strain he'd suffered in Saturday's practice. The veteran safety should be able to participate without restrictions moving forward as he gears up to play a key role in the Bills' secondary this coming season.

  • Bills' Ben VanSumeren: Participating in training camp

VanSumeren (knee) participated in Buffalo's training camp Wednesday, Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com reports.

VanSumeren has fully recovered from the torn patella tendon he suffered last September with the Eagles. The 26-year-old is expected to serve as the Bills' primary fullback during the upcoming campaign.

  • Bills' Dorian Williams: Active in team drills

Williams participated in team drills Tuesday for the first time since the start of training camp, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Williams was sidelined in minicamp by a lower-body injury, but the 2023 third-rounder has progressed enough in his recovery to expand his workload in training camp practices. He's looking to build off a 2025 campaign in which he logged 63 tackles (29 solo), two pass defenses and one fumble recovery across 16 regular-season games (nine starts). Williams is competing against Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and rookie fourth-rounder Kaleb Elarms-Orr for the starting job at inside linebacker next to Terrel Bernard.

  • Bills' Landon Jackson: Back in action at training camp

Jackson (knee) participated in Tuesday's training camp practice, Mike Maynard and Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site report.

Jackson was placed on the Bills' IR in mid-November due to a knee injury and did not play in a single regular-season game following the move. He appears to be fully healthy and is in training camp competing for a depth spot on Buffalo's 53-man roster for the 2026 campaign.

  • Bills' Michael Hoecht: Working back from injury

The Bills have been working Hoecht (Achilles) into full team drills since the start of training camp, Tim Graham of The Athletic reports.

Hoecht tore his right Achilles during the Bills' Week 9 contest against the Chiefs. That was just his second appearance of the 2025 regular season after he missed the first six games while serving a suspension. He's drawn praise from his teammates and coaching staff for his approach to his rehab, and Hoecht is hoping to be available for the Bills' regular-season opener against the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 13.

  • Bills' Cole Bishop: Past knee injury

Bishop (knee) has been participating in Bills training camp, Nick Wojton of Bills Wire reports.

The safety underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee during the offseason but is back to 100 percent health and appears locked into a starting job in the Buffalo secondary. Bishop started all 17 regular-season games last season, posting 85 tackles (53 solo), including 2.0 sacks and seven pass breakups, including three interceptions.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Returns after brief exit

Davis was able to check back into Tuesday's practice after briefly exiting with an apparent ankle injury, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Davis was slow to get up after getting tackled to the ground on a run during 11-on-11 drills, with team trainers coming out on the field to evaluate him before he was able to walk to the sideline under his own power. After a quick trip to the medical tent, Davis was back on the field, albeit with a taped-up ankle. His availability doesn't look like it will be much of a concern moving forward.
